Trauma

Trauma can be the result of being exposed to an extremely distressing event or series of stressful events that is so overwhelming for a person, they find it difficult to cope with and process.

Not everyone experiences trauma as a result of experiencing stressful events. In the quest to overcome trauma we first have to acknowledge what happened, accept that it was an event that has caused trauma and that the reaction to it is normal.

To be able to understand your feelings and know that they are valid. With patience and self compassion people are able to process the event/s and adjust to the new normal. Developing healthy coping mechanisms are important, taking into consideration self-care, support networks as well as finding and engaging in activities that will support and promote your wellbeing. Recovery and healing is often a long and steady process which often endures setbacks along the way.

At Brickwork Therapeutic Counselling I provide a safe, confidential, non judgemental space for clients to work at a pace suitable for them, this is particularly important for clients suffering from trauma.
